There was a large variation in the participation. While 68.14% of full-time doctors voted, only 6.42% of students did so. The participation level for other teaching staff and for Administration and Services Staff was 23,73% and 46,72% respectively.

Lluís Ferrer Caubet (Palma, 1959) graduated in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Zaragoza in 1981, and was conferred a special award (premio extraordinario - conferred by the university to its very best students) and the National End-of-Studies Award, conferred by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science. Shortly after, he went to Germany to write his doctoral thesis with a grant from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and received his doctoral degree from the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover (1984).

Having already come to the UAB, he became Head of the Department of Animal Pathology and Production (1990-1994) and later Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (1994-1998). Four years later he became Vice-Rector of Research, and then Assistant Vice-Rector to the Rector (1998-2002), and finally Rector of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (2002-2005). Between 2004 and 2005 he was President of the Catalan Association of Public Universities (ACUP).

His research is centred on comparative dermatology and canine leishmaniasis, an extremely widespread illness in the Mediterranean region affecting dogs and humans. He has published many science articles and has co-authored several joint international publications. He has been a visiting professor to the universities of Cornell (USA, 1985), Utrecht (Netherlands, 1987), Guelph (Canada, 1992) and Lisbon (1995).
