Inauguration of the UAB Centre for Migration Studies and Research

The inauguration of the Centre for Migration Studies and Research (CER Migracions) will take place on Thursday 30 September at 5 pm at the Research Module A, located in front of the Humanities Library. The new centre aims to give scientifically-based answers to aspects of the migration phenomenon through multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches and a firm belief in the social commitment and responsibility of UAB.

The event will begin with a presentation of the new research centre by Dr Carlota Solé i Puig, professor of the Department of Sociology and Director of CER Migracions. Following the presentation there will be a showing of the documentary Entorno a la muerte de Oussumane Kote, a production carried out by the research group MIGRACOM-CER Migracions and a conference will be given by Rosa Aparicio Gómez, researcher at the University Institute José Ortega y Gasset, on the national identity of children of migrants entitled Dos perspectivas sobre la autoidentificación nacional de las segundas generaciones.

CER Migracions was born through collaborations among different UAB research groups in migration issues. Presently the member groups of the new centre are UAB GEDIME, directed by Dr Carlota Solé i Puig; EMIGRA, directed by Dr Sílvia Carrasco, lecturer of the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology; MIGRACOM, directed by Dr Nicolás Lorite, lecturer of the Department of Audiovisual Communication and Advertising II, and GIPE-PTP, directed by Dr Adriana Kaplan, lecturer of the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology.
