Great success of the students of Mathematics at the UAB in an international contest in modelling

In spite of it being our first participation, one of the teams of the Degree of Mathematics at the UAB has reached the grade of "Meritorious Winner"! This year the Mathematical Contest in Modelling COMAP had a participation of 2775 teams from around the world.

Above the grade of "Meritorious Winner" there is only the "Finalist Winner" and "Outstanding Winner", which together comprise only 2% of the contestants. Two other teams of the UAB have been qualified as "Honorable Mention", which starts at 15%. The other three teams are "Successful Participants", which begins at grade 45%.

The participating teams (many of them from China) were divided fairly evenly between problems A and B. The top three teams from the UAB had chosen problem B, and the other three problem A. As stated in the judges’ reports, problem A of this year "was one of the more difficult problems".

Congratulations to all participants for their hard work and enthusiasm. As they themselves explained to their classmates at the Workshop on Modelling, the experience has been very rewarding regardless of the outcome.
