First Teaching Methodology and Innovation Congress focuses on AI challenges in the legal sector
On 1 and 2 October, Casa Convalescència held the first Congress on Teaching Methodology and Innovation, organised by the UAB and the Spanish Association of Administrative Law Professors (AEPDA). This inaugural edition focused on the challenges posed by local government law and artificial intelligence for legal teaching and practice.
The congress was inaugurated by José Luís Muñoz, vice-rector for Training and Teaching Innovation at the UAB; Concepción Barrero, president of the AEPDA; and Lucía Alarcón, co-coordinator of the AEPDA’s Teaching Methodology and Innovation Group (MID-AEPDA).
The day was structured around two panel discussions. The first, devoted to teaching, communicating and projecting local law as an academic field and a professional career path, addressed the challenges that training in this subject presents today and the need to strengthen its visibility and appeal among students. The second, focused on artificial intelligence and law, analysed the opportunities, limitations and demands that AI poses for both teaching and legal practice. The event was very well attended and was characterised by a lively and sustained debate, with numerous interventions from both the speakers and the attendees. The two panels generated a particularly rich exchange of experiences, viewpoints and proposals, which was complemented by the presentation of papers and teaching initiatives from different universities.
The result was a dynamic and productive meeting, characterised by a high level of engagement, discussion, and academic exchange, which highlighted the interest in establishing this Congress as a key forum for innovation in the teaching of administrative law.
