First official exam in Chinese language to be held at the UAB

16/11/2009
The HSK exam is offered annually through the National Office for the Teaching of Chinese as a Foreign Language (Hanban), a non-profit organisation under the Chinese Ministry for Education. The exams take place both in China and in the other countries that promote and disseminate studies in Mandarin Chinese, with the aim of evaluating the levels of non-native speakers, including foreign students, Chinese students overseas and students from minority nationalities in China. In Spain, the exam has already been taken in centres in Madrid, Valencia and Granada.
The HSK exam consists of three levels: basic, for students who have received between 1200 and 800 hours of official classes in Chinese; beginner-intermediate for students with 400 to 2,000 hours of training and advanced for students who have studied more than 3,000 hours of Chinese.
On passing the exam the diploma certifies the level of Chinese obtained by the student for entry to a Chinese university as a foreign student and when required to provide official documentation for obtaining Chinese language certificates or for work which entails knowledge of Chinese.
The official HSK exam will take place on 12 December at the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
