The 50th anniversary gala, which will took place at 5 p.m. at the Aula Magna, was presided by UAB Rector Javier Lafuente Sancho, and included speeches by the faculty's Dean Enric Fossas Espadaler; by Francesca Puigpelat Martí, former dean of the Faculty of Law and professor in Philosophy of Law at the UAB; by Joaquim Bisbal Méndez, professor of Commercial Law at the UAB, lawyer and alumnus of the first graduating class (Class of 1971-1976); by Sebastián Moralo Gallego, judge of the Employment Division of the Supreme Court, Class of 1977-1982; and by Almudena Carneros Ruiz, lawyer, Head of Legal at NTT Managed Services, Class of 2006-2010.

The Cradle of Thousands of Jurists

The Faculty of Law currently is made up of 2,743 undergraduate and postgraduate students, 312 lecturers and 15 consolidated research groups. A wide variety of academic programmes are offered, ranging from law, criminology and occupational relations, to double degrees and up to 9 master's degrees.

Lectures at the faculty first began on 20 October 1971, shortly after the UAB was founded. In these five decades of teaching and research activities, thousands of jurists now working in Catalonia were trained professionally in its lecture halls and the faculty soon became a nationally and internationally renowned centre for legal education.

The faculty's teaching model is based on a continuous work method, developing cross-curricular knowledge, incorporating new technologies, transmitting values, fostering a critical spirit and the ability to reason.

As Dean Enric Fossas explains on the faculty's website: "That is why last year we began to implement the New Teaching Model in our first-year students, and this year it will be implemented with all other students. Our lecturers are committed to their teaching tasks, and the large amount of collaborations with legal and social sectors allow students to aprticipate in work placements and gain professional experience while they study. The rate of employment amongst our graduates demonstrates the success of this model and motivates us to strengthen the relationships we maintain with other institutions, social agents, corporations and the professional world".
