Experts Debate on Noise Pollution Management

The workshop "Improvement and Restoration of Sound Quality. Action Plans", organised by ETC-SIA and Government of Catalonia will take place on 20 September. The workshop will take place at the main building of the Department of Land Management and Sustainability in Barcelona (Av. Josep Tarradellas 2-6).

The meeting will unite experts in environmental noise and representatives from Catalan, Spanish and European administrations working on the management of noise pollution.

The workshop is open to the public and addressed to urban and environmental planning technicians and professionals working with noise measuring devices, noise pollution maps and action plans, in addition to all those interested in useful tools for the management of environmental noise. All those interested should register for the workshop by sending an e-mail to acustica.tes@gencat.cat.

Four sessions will be held from 9 am to 2 pm in which the following issues will be discussed: noise pollution assessment and management strategies, strategic maps and action plans and future perspectives of environmental noise management. The last session will be dedicated to a debate among assistants.

The welcoming session will begin at 9 am will a speech by Josep Enric Llobet, Secretary of Environment and Sustainability of the Government of Catalonia. The closing speech will be offered by Assumpta Farran, Director General of Environmental Quality.

The European Topic Centre on Spatial Information and Analysis (ETC-SIA) is an international consortium belonging to the European Environment Agency which coordinates the work in ten different research centres around Europe. It works on analysing the environmental impact of social and economic activities taking place in Europe. The centre is directed by Françoise Breton, professor of the UAB Department of Geography.
