Erasmus BIP program: the university as a space for activism transforming society
The Faculty of Education Sciences of the UAB has participated in the promotion of BIPs since its first edition in the 2020-2021 academic year, together with a Dutch and another Belgian higher education center.
Activism for Inclusive Education is a BIP (Blended Intensive Programs) carried out over two years between students from the UAB, the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Antwerp. This program aims to promote activism in the university, as a space for learning and action for social transformation.
There is an online part and a face-to-face week subsidized by Erasmus scholarships. The student has invested a first year in studying and analyzing the fundamental rights of his university in terms of gender equality, interculturality and inclusion, and shares it with the rest of the students from other countries. This is done with a European perspective and a "manifesto" is drawn up as summary documents of the main improvement proposals that are transferred to the academic authorities of each center, and on which a commitment of actions is forged to implement them: dissemination through networks, public presentations, talks with peers.
In the second year, the impact that the proposals have had is monitored and collaboration is made in the co-production of the new edition of the BIP, for the next academic year. This is where the face-to-face part has just taken shape, students voluntarily participate as mentors for new program participants. In this way they also co-lead the training activities with the teaching staff.
