Emilio Lora-Tamayo Elected President of CSIC

Lora-Tamayo was born in Madrid in 1950 and is currently director of the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona. He received his doctoral degree in Physical Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid and is professor in Electronics at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Lora-Tamayo is expert in microelectronics and nanotechnologies, specifically in the fields of physics and the technologies of semiconductors, devices and integrated-circuits made of silicon.
Lora-Tamayo, who already had been elected president of the Spanish National Research Council in 2003 and 2004, once again will head the main scientific organisation existing in Spain. Affiliated to the Spanish Ministry for Economy and Competitiveness under the Secretary of State of Research, Development and Innovation, the organisation's mission is to promote, coordinate, develop and disseminate pluridisciplinary scientific and technological research with the aim of contributing to the advancement of knowledge and economic, social and cultural development.
