Fifty-three doctors and four healthcare teams from the counties of Barcelona were awarded for their excellent professional careers. The eight UAB professors honoured with the award were Helena Bascuñana, lecturer in Basic Psychology; Santiago Ramon y Cajal, director of the Department of Morphological Sciences; María Rosa Bella, lecturer in Pathological Anatomy; Eva Montané, Vice Dean of Students and Mobility of the Faculty of Medicine and coordinator of the third year of the bachelor's degree in Medicine at the Germans Trias i Pujol Teaching Unit; Enric Castellet, lecturer in Traumatology and Orthopedics; and Joaquín López-Contreras, Eugenia Negredo and Lourdes Mateu, lecturers in the Department of Medicine.

The awards are divided into six different categories: hospital care medicine, primary care medicine, medicine in other care settings, biomedical research, medical education and, finally, humanities, cooperation and management. Care teams are also awarded in recognition of the leadership and excellence of these professionals working as a team. The main objective of the awards is to distinguish their professional careers, based on honesty, commitment, altruism, integrity, a job well done, and excellence as doctors.
