Dr Marta G. Rivera selected for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

A total of 831 researchers from around the world have been chosen by the UN to prepare and publish the next assessment report of IPCC, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. UAB's postdoctoral researcher Marta G. Rivera Ferre, from the Department of Animal and Food Science, will be participating actively in this report as Lead Author.

Marta Guadalupe Rivera earned her doctoral degree in Veterinary Medicine from University of Cordoba. She has worked for the Spanish Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) and lectured at University of Aberdeen, UK, and University of Wageninen, The Netherlands. Her work focuses on the analysis of a global agro-food system (from production to consumption) through a multidisciplinary approach and from a social-economic perspective. Her research includes both the effects caused by how the system is organised presently and possible alternatives to make it more sustainable in the future.

Dr Rivera has published over 25 articles, 7 book chapters and a book on this field of research. She has also received two research prizes for young researchers and has been the only representative from Spain in the International Assessment of Agricultural Knowledge, Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD),was initiated by the World Bank and the UN.

Dr Rivera will be actively participating in the writing up of the IPCC assessment report as Lead Author in Working Group II (assessing vulnerability, consequences and adaptation options) thanks to her expertise in the analysis or rural environments.
