Digitization project of Spanish press from the Transition period (1975-1982)

Projecte de digitalització de premsa espanyola dels anys de la Transició

The Communication and General Newspaper Archives Library has started this project to preserve said documents and ease access to them.

11/11/2009

The project involved the digitization of a number of the most consulted newspapers and magazines, which had been damaged by use throughout the years.

The first stage of the project was carried forward during spring 2009. It begins with the two most significant periods of the Spanish Transition: Franco’s death, the crowning of King Juan Carlos I (November 1975) and the 23-F coup d’état (February 1981). The project is a reality thanks to an agreement with the Departament de Cultura i Mitjans de Comunicació de la Generalitat de Catalunya.

The outcome of the project is the DVD collection Recull de premsa de la Transició espanyola, which you will find available for reference at the information desk on the 4th floor of the Library. There you will find news coverage from media such as: Diario de Barcelona, El Noticiero universal, El Correo catalán, Tele/Expres, Pueblo o El Alcázar. When possible, we included all daily editions available.

In the forthcoming years, we intend to complete the digitization of those titles in progress as well as continue digitizing other titles and covering other stages of the Spanish Transition.
