DDD: the 17th institutional repository of the world

30/07/2009
In the new July edition of the Ranking Web of World Repositories, the DDD (Dipòsit Digital de Documents de la UAB) has improved its position significantly: it appears in the 23rd position and it is the 2nd repository in Spain among the general repositories, just after the UPCommons by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, that it is located at the 4th position. As regards the institutional repositories specific ranking (Top 400 Institutional), the DDD improvement has also been very important: it has been moved from 46th position to 17th.
These data have been collected by the Laboratorio de Cibermetría, a research authority belonging to CSIC that prepares:
- The Ranking Web of World Universities, made with data from more than 14,000 higher education institutions from all over the world and that classifies almost 6,000 of these ones. In this ranking, UAB has moved to the 174th position (in the previous edition it was on number 200) and it is the 5th university in Spain.
- The Ranking Web of World Repositories is based on a directory that catalogues almost 600 repositories from all over the world, on condition that they had their own domain or subdomain name and scholar contents. The WR indicator, that combines impact (visibility and number of external links) and published information (number of pages, of files and entries at Google Scholar), is followed.
Since all these data are analysed, the Top 400 Repositories of the World and a specific list with the Top 400 Institutional Repositories are published. You can consult both of them at http://repositories.webometrics.info.
The goal of these rankings is supporting the Open Access iniciatives, that promote a free access to scientific publications in electronic format and other kind of scholar documentation.
