Conference on nanotechnology applications for the textile industry

22/09/2009
Nanoscience and nanotechnology consist of a set of disciplines and techniques that study matter at nanometric scale. It is undoubtedly one of the sciences which has evolved most in recent years and has had a great influence in a variety of sectors: pharmaceutics, solar energy, food production, cosmetics and textile, etc.
The UAB30 business meeting, organised by the UAB Research Park, will dedicate this conference to the new functionalities and options nanotechnology can offer to the textile industry. Nanotechnology can be used to develop multifunctional fabrics, which can go beyond their basic functions and provide new added value to the product.
Several researchers and experts in this field will be participating in the meeting. David Amabilino, Vice-Coordinator of Barcelona Cluster de Nanotecnologia (BCN-b) and Vice-Director of the Barcelona Institute of Materials Science (ICMAB-CSIC), will explain the lines of research and the positioning of Barcelona Cluster de Nanotechnologia in the textile field. Marta Mas-Torrent, researcher at the Barcelona Institute of Materials Science (ICMAB-CSIC), will talk about her findings in plastic electronics for intelligent fabrics. Mirko Faccini, researcher at the LEITAT Technological Centre, will offer demonstrations of nanotechnology applications in the textile industry. And finally Débora Soler will talk about the practical case of the firm Tag Innovación, which manufactures gear specifically aimed at offering protection from thermal and mechanical risks.
The objective of this UAB30 meeting is to bring applied research closer to businesses and to show the wide range of industrial applications which can be created using the resources available at universities and research centres.
The entrance is free but there is a limited amount of places available. If you wish to attend the meeting please click here.
