Chapter UAB Alumni UK inaugurated in London
On Wednesday 1 July, UAB Rector Javier Lafuente inaugurated in London the Chapter UAB Alumni United Kingdom (UK), a network promoting the exchange of professional experiences and contacts among Catalans living in London and the UK, and who have studied at the UAB. This new group joins another similar one, that of the Chapter UAB Alumni East Coast in New York, inaugurated three years ago.
On Wednesday 1 July 2026, the UAB Alumni UK Chapter, based in London, was inaugurated at a gathering of UAB alumni held at the Delegation of the Government of Catalonia to the United Kingdom (17 Fleet Street).
The event brought together a large group of UAB alumni, as well as UAB Rector Javier Lafuente, UAB Vice-Rector for Students and Employability Annabel Galán, and the Government of Catalonia’s Delegate to the United Kingdom and Ireland, Francesc Claret (who is also a UAB Political Science alumnus), all of whom addressed the attendees. UAB Alumni Director Eva Miquel was also present.
The rector explained that “at the UAB, we have a mission: to give support as you progress—not only in the classroom, but also when you make the leap into the professional world. The chapter we are officially launching today is not merely an excuse to reconnect and celebrate; above all, it is a powerful tool for networking and mutual support.”
According to Vice-Rector Galán, “the fact that you are here, succeeding and forging your own paths in London, demonstrates the quality of the education you received, but above all, your talent and drive. We always say that the UAB experience doesn't end when you receive your diploma; the UAB is a lifelong bond. And the launch of this London chapter is definitive proof of that.” Meanwhile, delegate Francesc Claret highlighted the Catalan government's goal of “providing support to Catalan talent spread across the globe through spaces and meeting points like the one in London.”
Following the official welcome speeches, all attendees posed for a group photo and began networking, during which they discussed the country as well as the opportunities, dynamics, and support the chapters offer to newcomers.
Creating connections among UAB graduates
The new London chapter joins the UAB Alumni East Coast Chapter, based in New York, which was established in May 2023. UAB Alumni chapters are international regional groups that offer UAB graduates living in a specific area the opportunity to meet and work together. These groups aim to leverage the opportunities and benefits arising from cooperation among individuals from diverse fields of knowledge who share a geographical connection. Their goal is to foster ties among UAB graduates and with external stakeholders, enhance the visibility and prestige of UAB alumni, and promote the exchange of knowledge and professional experiences.
