Barcelona Graduate School of Mathematics receives the "Maria de Maeztu" award

The award aims to identify and give support to research excellence conducted in Spain through the recognition of the best research centres and units, and during four years supports strategic actions with up to 500,000 euros in funding.
In addition to the Department of Mathematics at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the Barcelona Graduate School of Mathematics is made up of the Mathematics Research Centre, with headquarters at the UAB, the Faculty of Mathematics of the University of Barcelona, and the Faculty of Mathematics and Statistics of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.
Also recognised as “Maria de Maeztu” units are the UPF Department of Experimental Health Science (DCEX), the UB Institute of Cosmos Sciences (ICC) and the CSIC Institute of Molecular Biology (IBM).
The criteria which must be met to receive this award are: have a high level of international impact and competitiveness within the field; undergo periodic evaluation processes conducted by independent international committees; a strategic approach to border science; high internationalisation both in collaboration and in attraction of talent, and the promotion of knowledge transfer to industries and society in general.
