The rectors of universities and presidents of the social councils of the public universities of Catalonia share the concern manifested by students and other members of the university community for the climate crisis in which our planet is emerged. For this reason, the Catalan Association of Public Universities (ACUP) is also adhering to the declaration of climate emergency, as have many other local and international institutions.

The public universities of Catalonia are committed to respecting the environment and promoting sustainable development, in speaking out about the causes and consequences of the factors which are damaging our Earth. They are also committed to use research and innovation in the actions and guidelines which could particularly prevent global warming which, as outlined by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change 2018, can lead to irreparable disasters.

This commitment can be seen in the work conducted by each of the public universities within their institutions and jointly under the ACUP and the Global University Network for Innovation (GUNi) with the aim of implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and meeting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) promoted by the United Nations.
