On Tuesday 13 October at 1:00 p.m. the UAB Theatre Hall will be staging BOJA, a monologue by Mariona Esplugues that looks at mental health with honesty, humour and sensitivity. The performance is part of the programme of the UAB's 2nd Culture and Health Week.

BOJA is a tragicomic monologue which, from a first-person perspective, portrays the experience of sixteen years of psychiatric consultations. Drawing on the actress' own story, the show addresses issues such as mental health, identity, and the search for a meaning in life.

The piece combines acting, dance, song, rap and audiovisual projections to create a direct and intimate narrative that invites the audience to delve into a question that is as intimate as it is universal: what really goes on inside a psychiatrist's consulting room?

With a minimalist staging, BOJA aims to highlight the reality of mental health disorders without taboos or melodrama, contributing to breaking down stigmas and creating spaces for conversation and reflection. The play is aimed especially at a young audience, but also resonates with families, educational institutions, and organisations working in the field of mental health.

Created, directed and performed by Mariona Esplugues, with the collaboration of Andrea Castellanos, the play premiered at the Teatre Eòlia in 2022 to sold-out performances and an excellent reception from audiences and critics. Since then, it has continued its tour of theatres, educational centres and cultural spaces throughout Catalonia.

Admission is free and subject to capacity. You can reserve your ticket in advance on this page.

The play forms part of the UAB's Second Culture and Health Week, an initiative that champions the role of the arts and culture as tools for well-being, prevention, and social cohesion. For one week, the campus will host activities that foster reflection on the relationship between culture and health from diverse perspectives.
