UAB student Maria Peiro receives one of the 2025 Health Promotion Awards from the Catalan Network of Healthy Universities
Maria Peiro i Egea, enrolled in the Master's Degree in General Health Psychology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, was one of the six student selected to recive a 2025 Health Promotion Awards given annually by the Catalan Network of Healthy Universities (Xarxa US.Cat). The awards ceremony was held on 10 December at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC).
The master's thesis carried out by student Maria Peiro, entitled "The refuge. Design of a project for the promotion of emotional well-being and the prevention of suicide in university students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the UAB", was recognised by the jury for its social relevance and high potential for impact in the university environment. The proposal stands out for its feasibility, the integration of existing resources and the combined use of the service-learning methodology and communication tools to connect with students.
The project offers an intervention model that could be replicated in other faculties and universities, contributing to strengthening strategies aimed at promoting emotional well-being and preventing suicide in academic spaces, an area of increasing relevance.
In the event, which is now in its fourth edition, six students from different Catalan universities were awarded for their final degree projects or master's theses, all of them aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Health and well-being. Each award included a diploma and a cash award of 1,000 euros.
The UAB has actively participated in the US.Cat Network since its creation, contributing to the deployment of policies and initiatives that promote healthy university environments, with prevention and health promotion among the university community.
