The UAB to participate in the 30th edition of Science Week
The UAB and other research centres on campus will be participating in the science popularisation events taking place from 7 to 16 November all over Catalonia.
The 30th Catalonia Science Week (SC25), organised by the Catalan Research and Innovation Foundation (FCRI), will be celebrated until 16 November. The week includes over 380 free popular science activities for all types of audiences and will take place in 36 different counties.
ACTIVITIES HELD AT THE UAB CAMPUS
Adapta’t: everything genetics can explain about you
From 7 to 16 November the Faculty of Biosciences will host this virtual activity on human genetics. The online activity will allow participants to discover how genetics can reveal evolutionary history, the origin of various diseases, and the mechanisms of inheritance of people. The activity offers an interactive tour of the most innovative laboratory techniques and shows how genes play a fundamental role in the identity of each individual.
Genogràfic: a game on human genetic variability
Also from 7 to 16 November and at the Faculty Biosciences, an educational itinerary will be carried out that includes the online game Genogràfic, dedicated to human genetic and cultural diversity. The game allows users to understand how climate, diet and metabolism influence the evolution of the human species and proposes the construction of a DNA helix as the final element of the game.
PhyloGenome: you decide the history of genetic sequencing
On 10 November, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., this practical workshop dedicated to genomic sequencing will take place at the Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (IBB-UAB). The activity includes a visit to the UAB Genomics Service to learn about the genome sequencing processes and will end with the PhyloGenome card game, which combines scientific concepts and strategy to understand the evolution of genomics. The workshop will feature the collaboration of researchers Sònia Casillas and Roger Lahoz.
Guided tour of the IBB-UAB: "Seguim l’itinerari de models animals"
On 12 November, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., the Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (IBB-UAB) opens its doors to offer a guided tour of the laboratories to learn how animal models are used in biomedical research. The activity includes an introductory talk and a tour of the institute's facilities.
Guided tour of the Barcelona Institute of Microelectronics: "Electrònica en viu"
The Barcelona Institute of Microelectronics (IMB-CNM, CSIC) organises three sessions of the “Live Electronics” guided tour on 10, 11 and 13 November. The activity allows you to learn about how a leading research centre in microelectronics works, and delve into the process of designing and manufacturing chips. You will have access to the Zenon Navarro Microelectronics Exhibition Area and the perimeter corridor of the Integrated Micro and Nanofabrication White Room, recognised as a unique scientific and technical infrastructure (ICTS) by the Spanish Ministry for Science, Innovation and Universities.
Guided tour of the "Quàntica i l’ICMAB" exhibition
From 4 to 28 November, the Barcelona Institute of Materials Science (ICMAB-CSIC) is offering guided tours of the exhibition “Quàntica i l'ICMAB”. The activity offers a journey through the history of quantum physics and its current applications in three areas: superconductivity, spintronics and molecular qubits. The tours combine explanations, images and models to bring the public closer to the world of quantum physics and the research that is carried out.
Women, forms and thought: Mathematical and artistic route through the CRM
On 12 November, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., the Centre for Mathematical Research (CRM) will offer this activity. It is a guided tour of the exhibition “Figures visibles” and various works of art related to mathematics, installed in the centre's hallways. The activity offers a journey to learn about the biography and contributions of women who have played a significant role in the history of mathematics. The explanations, given by Pau Varela and Natalia Vallina, offer a perspective that connects art, science and mathematical thought.
