Albert Selva elected dean of the Faculty of Medicine
Albert Selva, professor of Medicine of the Department of Medicine at the UAB, has been elected dean of the Faculty of Medicine.

The new Dean's Office team is formed by Esther Udina, as Secretary of the Faculty; Montserrat Solanas, as Vice Dean for Academic Accreditation Quality; Raquel Corripio, as Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Students; Irma Casas, as Vice Dean for Mobility and Internships; Jaume Kulisevsky, as Vice Dean for Graduate Studies; Jordi Casademont, as vice dean for Faculty and Planning; Gianluigi Caltabiano, as vice dean for Economics; Assumpta Caixàs, as coordinator of the degree in Medicine; Sabiniana San Rafael, as coordinator of the degree in Nursing; and Jordi Cuartero, as coordinator of the degree in Physiotherapy.
Albert Selva is a specialist in internal medicine and was coordinator and section chief of the Systemic Autoimmune Diseases Unit at the Vall d'Hebron General Hospital. He has participated in competitive research projects and is the author of numerous publications in national and international indexed journals, with special interest in the study of inflammatory muscle diseases, also called myositis (ORCID 0000-0003-2823-9761). He has supervised eleven PhD theses in the area of autoimmunity, nine of them focused on the study of different aspects of myositis.
He collaborates in the research and study of myositis with hospitals and universities in our country, such as the Hospital de Santa Creu i Sant Pau, linked to the UAB, and the Hospital Clínic, linked to the UB. He also works in close collaboration with European centres such as the Karolinska Institutet, in Sweden; the Hôpital Pitié-Salpêtrière, in Paris; and the University of Manchester, United Kingdom; and in the United States with the National Institutes of Health and the Johns Hopkins Myositis Center.
In terms of institutional responsibilities at the UAB, he was director of the Department of Medicine and coordinator of the Faculty's bachelor's degree in Medicine. He is also a corresponding member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia.
He is the first dean of the centre elected according to the Organic Law of the University System (LOSU), with a system of elections by universal suffrage and weighted voting. The LOSU establishes that the term of office of the holders of elected unipersonal bodies is, in all cases, six years, non-renewable and non-extendable. Albert Selva takes over from Salvador Navarro, who has been the dean of the Faculty from 2022 until now.
