In accordance with the Declaration of the UAB Senate on the situation in Gaza approved on 30 May 2024, and in view of the deterioration of the situation in Palestine due to the systematic violence exercised by the Israeli army against the civilian population, the Governing Council of the UAB, the supreme governing body of the University, makes the following statement in which it:

Logosímbol de la UAB

1. Denounces the genocide taking place in Palestine due to the systematic violence exercised by the Israeli army against the Palestinian civilian population, and calls for an immediate halt to the warlike actions in the Gaza Strip in accordance with the position set by the UN.

2. Will not sign any new agreements or participate in new international agreements or projects of academic cooperation or research in collaboration with Israeli universities, organisations or institutions, until the State of Israel guarantees a situation of absolute peace and respect for human rights in Palestine.

Will give full institutional support to research staff who, in compliance with the UAB code of ethics and human rights policy, wish to abandon a current research project.

3. Urges other universities in the European Union to jointly demand that the European Commission immediately and as a precautionary measure block the participation of Israeli institutions in all EU-funded projects.

4. Is committed to ending existing economic and academic relationships with corporations with proven complicity in the employment, apartheid, colonialism and genocide perpetrated by the State of Israel against the Palestinian population.

5. Requests accreditation that both supplier companies and subcontractors are complying with the human rights principles set out in the recently approved UAB Human Rights Policy.

6. Demands that the Government of Catalonia, the Spanish government, and the European Commission break all economic, arms and diplomatic relations with the State of Israel until it guarantees a situation of absolute peace and respect for human rights in Palestine.

7. Reinforces the University's commitment to receive members of the academic community affected by the conflict in Palestine, increasing efforts to welcome refugee students and strengthening relations with Palestinian universities and NGOs that support students, researchers and teachers retaliated for their opposition to the massacre.

Increases collaboration with other universities and with the municipalities of Cerdanyola del Vallès, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Sabadell and Barcelona, and other nearby municipalities, for their effective reception.

And it calls on the Spanish government to take the necessary actions to help welcome the academic community affected by the conflict in Palestine in the same way as it has done with students from other conflict zones.

8. Creates a working group delegated by the Governing Council to follow up on this agreement and, if necessary, propose new measures to the Governing Council.

9. This declaration and the actions arising from it will be made public through the University's web page and will be communicated to the media.
