PhD student in Surgery and Morphological Sciences Laura Pons wins the UAB's "Thesis in 4 Minutes" competition
Laura Pons Martínez, student of the PhD programme in Surgery and Morphological Sciences, has won the first prize in this year's “Thesis in 4 minutes” competition of the UAB, endowed with €800. She will go on to represent the UAB in the final phase, organised by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation, on 3 July at 5:30 p.m. in the Espai Fundació “la Caixa” in Girona.

Laura Pons Martínez won the contest with her thesis entitled "Voldries passar per una químio si saps que no funcionà?" [Would you undergo chemotherapy if you knew it would not work?] As the winner, she will participate on behalf of the UAB in the final of the competition “Present your thesis in 4 minutes”, which will take place on 3 July and be streamed live on the YouTube channel of the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation. The competition, organised by the FCRI, will include the participation of all Catalan universities and will award three prizes to the best presentations: €3,000 (jury prize), €2,000 (jury prize) and €1,000 (audience prize).
The second prize of the UAB jury, worth €500, went to David Ramírez Gómez, PhD student of the Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biomedicine programme, for the presentation “Alzheimer: una resposta senzilla a un repte complex” [Alzheimer: a simple answer to a complex challenge].
The audience prize, worth €200, went to David López Bosch, PhD student of the Terrestrial Ecology programme, for the presentation “Ratpenats fantàstics i com estudiar-los” [Fantastic bats and how to study them].
The Assumpció Català i Poch special mention for the impulse and promotion of the Catalan language, endowed with €300, went to Carla Alfonso Martín, student of the PhD programme in Health and Sport Psychology, with the presentation “Quan el cor i la ment parlen: l'ús de dispositius per entendre l'esportista” [When the heart and mind speak: the use of devices to understand athletes].
The competition was held in the Carles Perelló room of the Doctoral School and was broadcast live on the UAB YouTube channel. Nine PhD students participated in the event.
