As part of the Argó Programme offered by the UAB Institute for Education Studies, the conference Tocats de Literatura will take place on 8 May. The aim of the conference is to foster interest in Catalan literature among students from upper secondary school and vocational training courses. Author Joan-Lluís Lluís will begin the day at 9:30 a.m. with a conference entitled "Literature Like a Chocolate Tablet". The event will take place in the UAB Auditorium, located at the Faculty of Arts & Humanities.

Tocats de literatura

Joan-Lluís Lluís, who has excelled as an author of prose and poetry and as a translator, is a well-known figure of the Catalan literary scene and has been awarded the Sant Jordi and the Òmnium awards. He will speak about literature as a vital necessity, given that “human beings, in order to live, need to eat, drink and hear stories”. According to the author, “literature is one of the ways we have to share fictions created by our imaginary and destined for our imaginary”.

The day will continue with four workshops to be held at the Faculty of Arts & Humanities and at the Faculty of Education. Salvador Comelles, lecturer of the Department of Catalan Studies of the UAB, will offer the workshop “From visual poems to videopoems”; Carmen Ávalos, lecturer of the Department of Audiovisual Communication and Advertising of the UAB, will give another on “The television script, a new narrative”; while cultural promoter Martí Ruiz will offer the workshop “La cosa de la glosa”. Alba Martínez, member of the Versembrant school, will talk about "The literary and musical challenge in rap. Skills, resources and praxis".

Each workshop will host about thirty students from different education centres. Registrations are already closed. The aim of this initiative is to encourage interest in the study of Catalan language and literature, an area in which the UAB's bachelor's degree in Catalan Studies is a benchmark. In addition, the UAB reaffirms its commitment to the Catalan language, which was made evident with the institutional campaign No em toquis la llengua (“Don't touch my language") for the 2022/23 academic year.
