Núria Planas elected new director of the Agency for Education Planning and Evaluation

Dr Planas coordinates the Research Group on Educational Practice and Mathematical Activity (GIPEAM) and the Unit of Teaching of Mathematics. She has been secretary of the Department of Teaching of Mathematics and Experimental Sciences at the UAB. She was also teacher of secondary education and coordinator of the Mathematics and Secondary Education Group of the Rosa Sensat Teachers Association. She chairs the Spanish Society for Research in Mathematics Education and is a member of the executive committee of the International Commission on Mathematical Instruction (ICMI) and of the advisory committee of the Spanish Government's Plan for the Improvement of Mathematical Competence.

The research led by Planas has contributed to understanding the use of language in the teaching and learning of school mathematics in linguistically diverse environments. She received the ICREA Academia Award 2013, was distinguished with an Extraordinary Professorship at the University of South Africa between 2013 and 2020, and is Honorary Research Fellow in the Department of Education at the University of Oxford since 2022.
