Second-year students from nine UAB faculties are invited to participate in the key competencies test developed by Barcelona Activa, which will allow them to evaluate their skills in accordance with the labour market, and adapt their professional profiles to the soft skills that are gaining importance in today's workplace. Once the results are analysed, the UAB will be able to offer new learning itineraries.

The UAB will be the first university in Catalonia to offer this key competencies test to its second-year students, with the aim of adapting professional profiles to the current needs of the labour market.

The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and Barcelona Activa are making progress on a framework agreement on employability with the aim of accompanying students in the current employment context and promoting the development of competencies and soft skills, which are highly valued by companies when it comes to selecting and promoting talent. This will allow the improvement of professional profiles to meet the demands of companies and the requirements of each sector.

Up to nine UAB faculties have incorporated the competency test developed by the economic development agency Barcelona Activa, which allows taking a self-diagnosis test and identifying the strengths and weaknesses that need to be worked on to meet the demands of the labour market.

Nearly 4,000 students are taking part in it, and the UAB will be the first Catalan university to carry out this test on a massive scale for all second-year students of its degrees. Specifically, the faculties applying it are Engineering, Political Science and Sociology, Law, Arts & Humanities, Translation and Interpreting, Veterinary Medicine, Economics and Business Studies, Communication Studies and Biosciences.

The reinforcement of personal skills is considered key in the current labour context. For this reason, the agreement between Barcelona Activa and the UAB focuses on combining these measures with the technical knowledge acquired in the university centres.

With this project, once the results obtained from the tests are analysed by the Employability Service of the UAB and the different faculties, Barcelona Activa and the UAB will design together the learning itineraries, which will be deployed during the 2024/25 academic year. In addition, as part of the agreement between both entities, they will collaborate to share job offers and internships in companies, as well as joint actions related to entrepreneurship and cooperativism.

The Barcelona Activa skills test is a self-diagnostic test that provides a competency level and identifies up to 21 skills that are relevant in the current labour market, strengths and specific areas for improvement. Based on the learning proposals that will emerge from the test results, new itineraries will be offered to students.
