According to the data offered by the QS World Universtiy Rankings 2022 edition, the UAB ranks 209 worldwide, rising four positions from last year's ranking. In this year's edition, QS also provides information on the percentile in which the university finds itself. This allows users to verify that the UAB is currently within the top 16% of best universities in the world, and with a tendency to improve year after year. With regards to Spanish universities, the UAB comes in third position, behind the Universitat de Barcelona (UB) and the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM).

At global level, the UAB scores 42.6 over 100 (compared to the 2021 edition, in which it scored 40.09 over 100). It is worth mentioning that all scores are done in comparison to the university ranking in first place, which is given a score equal to 100.

The UAB has always stood out in the criteria measuring academic reputation and continues to have a very favourable academic reputation amongst academics of other universities. This fact is fundamental in explaining the position of the UAB in the global ranking, since this indicator, in which the UAB has a score of 60.8 points, represents 40% of the total score.

The UAB also improved in other evaluation criteria. In the "normalised academic citations", it rose slightly from 89.7 citations per academic to 90.3, making its overall score in this indicator over 13 points higher than last year's edition (from 39.9 to 52.7).  With regard to internationalisation criteria, the percentage of lecturers and researchers from abroad, the UAB goes from 11.4% to 11.1%, while the indicator for students from abroad does rise slightly, from 12.6% to 12.8%, thus reflecting a small increase in its score and position.

In order to create the ranking, QS contacts with the universities directly to request data on the latest completed academic year (2019-2020) and gathers the number of citations for the past six years (2014-2019), in addition to acquiring the information included in Elsevier's SCOPUS scientific database.
