The International Welcome Days of the first term of the year 2019/2020 took place from 12th to 19th September. It is a week in which the UAB international students get to know the services and activities offered by the university. The opening shot was the International Student’s Welcome session, which was held at the Auditorio of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. It was given by the Vice-Rector for International Relations , Màrius Martínez, and the Vice-rector for Students and Employability, Sara Moreno. Moreover, Fiona Kelso, from the Language Service, explained how important the Catalan language at the university and in the society is.

During the other days a series of workshops and activities were held by the UAB services and students societies to let the newcomers know the activities in which they can participate during their stay at the UAB. Other activities were aimed to get acquainted with other students and other cultures, through different gastronomies —at the International Diner — or through language —in Tandem activities, where you can practice foreign languages through board games. UAB mentors organized a walk around Barcelona and a picnic at Ciutadella Park.

The International Welcome day final activity was the Student’s societies and UAB services Fair. It took place in Plaça Civica and it was also targeted at first-year students. Both Student’s societies and UAB services showed their activities. Some of them did it with a stall and the others did an exhibition, like the Ganapies UAB castell society, who did a tower and an opened rehearsal, or Swing UAB, who invited everyone to dance.

This week had a huge success in terms of participation in the activities, workshops and talks. Students from a large variety of countries got the chance to meet other international students and local students belonging to Mentor program, who made the newcomers feel part of the community.
