Official presentation of the exhibition “Sexualities and childhoods: building knowledge", on display at the UAB Exhibition Hall from 20 January to 7 March, will take place on 19 February. Laura Santamaria, Vice-Rector for Culture and Language Policy of the UAB; Diana Marre, director of the AFIN research group, and Hugo Valenzuela, director of the Department of Anthropology, will attend the event.

The exhibition consists of a compilation of drawings created by children between 7 and 11 years old from various public primary schools in the province of Barcelona, which provide data on how they think, interpret and represent sexuality. The exhibition includes a screening of the documentary (Re)thinking sex education, based on the SexAFIN project, which premiered at the UAB Cinema Hall, before being broadcast on TV3's Sense Ficció. Additionally, the exhibition includes a set of crochet figures used by the researchers to explain sexual organs to primary school students.

The AFIN research group uses participatory methodologies to investigate how teachers and families accompany children in their experiences and knowledge about sexuality, and from there the boys and girls created their drawings answering several questions such as “what is the relationship between sexuality and our body” or “what are the different ways of experiencing sexuality?

SexAFIN explains that the results of the research “contribute to the development of sexual and reproductive health and education programmes and policies”.

The exhibition is organised by the SexAFIN project, which belongs to the AFIN Research Group of the Department of Anthropology of the UAB, and Cultura en Viu.
