Inauguration of the academic year at the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting

French novelist, university professor, and literary critic Tiphanie Samoyault will give the inaugural conference of the new academic year at the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting, entitled "Traducció i violència". 

The event will be opened by the Dean of the Faculty, Simona Skrabec, at 12 noon, followed by a speech from Amadeu Cuito, President of the Catalan Society of Friends of Marcel Proust, before Samoyault's lecture, which will take place at 12:15 p.m. This will be followed by a dialogue between the speaker and Andreu Gestí. The inaugural event for the course will be concluded by the UAB's Vice-Rector for International Relations Oscar Jané.

Samoyault, specialist in the work of Roland Barthes, received the Grand Prix for Non-Fiction from the Société des Gens de Lettres in 2015. After working at the University of Paris VIII, she became lecturer of Comparative Literature at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University (Paris 3). She headed the Department of Comparative Literature at the University of Paris VIII until June 2012.

She is also a novelist and translator of many works, including parts of an edition of James Joyce's Ulysses. A member of the reading committee for Éditions du Seuil, she also contributes to France Culture and contributed to La Quinzaine littéraire until September 2015. She is a member of the editorial board of the online magazine En attendant Nadeau. Since 2022, Samoyault has been writing a series for Le Monde Livres.
