BLACK: dance as a resistance and human rights movement
Event details
- Start: 16 Mar 2026 13:30
The inauguration of the UAB's Week of Culture and Human Rights, running from 16 to 26 March, will take place on 16 March at 1:30 p.m. with the dance performance BLACK at the UAB Theatre Hall. The activity is organised by the Culture Unit and the UAB University Social Responsibility project, with the support of the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Communication Studies and the UAB Fundació Autònoma Solidària, among other entities.
Drawing on episodes from recent history such as #BlackLivesMatter movement or the murder of George Floyd, Oulouy draws on his own life experience to explore what it means to inhabit a black body in Europe. Through languages such as krump, urban dance and modern dance, the performance articulates a physical and emotional response to discrimination, stereotypes and exclusionary dynamics. The piece has been part of programmes linked to anti-racist initiatives and social reflection spaces, reinforcing its political and pedagogical dimension. BLACK not only engages the viewer from an artistic standpoint, but also invites them to question social structures that often go unnoticed.
