Universitat a l'Abast celebrated the end of another academic year

The closing event of the Universitat a L'Abast will take place on 14 June and will be presented and moderated by UAB Rector Javier Lafuente Sancho.

At 5 p.m., Professor Margarita Freixas Alàs, Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Humanities, will give the opening speech. 

Following, poet and former professor of the Department of Catalan, Miquel Desclot, will give a conference on the usefulness of poetic language entitled "Utilitat del llenguatge poètic”.

At 6:45 p.m., the event will end with a speech by the rector and at 7:45 p.m. attendants will be invited to appetizers and cava outside of the faculty.

Attending the event will be students participating in the past two editions of the Universitat a l’Abast programme, as well as the heads of the University Extension Classrooms related to the UAB,  lecturers forming part of the programme and also deans and administrators of each centre. 

Miquel Desclot holds a degree in Catalan Philology from the University of Barcelona and was lecturer in the Department of Catalan Philology at the UAB (1975-1980 and 1982-1991). He was reader and lecturer at Durham University, England, between 1980 and 1982, and visiting lecturer at Pompeu Fabra University in 2007. In 1971 he published his first book of poetry, Ira és trista passió, and also his first book for children, El blanc i el negre. Since then he has regularly published books of poetry, children's literature, prose memoirs, essays and translations of poetry and plays. He has written about music and provided texts for various composers. In 2017 he received the Ciutat de Barcelona prize for the edition and translation of the Cançoner de Francesco Petrarca, and in 2020 the Carles Riba prize for the poetry book Despertar-me qua.
