Vicente Alcántara, lecturer in the Department of Applied Economics, passed away on 24 April 2025. The UAB extends its heartfelt condolences to the people who knew and loved him and expresses its sadness for having lost a member of its community.
The finals of the "Thesis in 4 Minutes" competition, in which PhD students present their thesis during a maximum of four minutes, will take place on 8 May at 12 noon at the Doctoral School. The event will be streamed live on the UAB's YouTube channel.
A new call for grants opens for the development of teaching innovation projects related to official undergraduate studies. The projects must take into account teaching needs and provide proposals for improvement that are transferable to the university community. Applications can be submitted between 5 May and 5 June.
All centres of the UAB's Bellaterra Campus will be closed during Spring Break, from 14 to 17 April 2025. Only certain services will be operating on campus.
The call, which is open to UAB lecturers and adminstration and services staff, aims to foster the creation of graduate and continuous learning courses. The application period will be open from 1 May to 30 June 2025.

On 3 March the new chemistry teaching laboratories will open for the different bachelor's degrees offered at the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Biosciences. The remodelling of the new laboratories form part of the refurbishings of Building C's Espina C7.
Researchers from different universities and research centres in Catalonia, including the UAB, have created the Catalan Association of Science and Technology Studies (STS-CAT). The official presentation will take place on 28 February at 9:30 a.m. at the Barcelona Research Residence. The inaugural lecture will be given by Wiebe E. Bijker, one of the leading thinkers in this field.
MiraMon, the geographic information system developed by the UAB and CREAF, celebrated its 30th anniversary in an event that will be followed by other activities during 2025. With more than 200,000 users in 42 different countries, this software is a key tool in Catalonia for monitoring changes on land. Thanks to MiraMon, a large number of PhD theses and key research works in the fields of geography, biology and climate have been carried out.
