UAB Faculty of Law Celebrates International Women’s Day with a Conference on Diversity and Intersectionality
March 11, 2026 — Aula Magna, Faculty of Law, UAB
The Faculty of Law of the Autonomous University of Barcelona hosted yesterday the event “Diverse Women at UAB”, a conference organized on the occasion of International Women’s Day that brought together academics, students, and members of the university community to discuss the concepts of equality, discrimination, and diversity from both a legal and human perspective.

The event, held in the Aula Magna of the faculty starting at 12:00 p.m., was structured in two complementary parts. First, Professor Noelia Igareda González, a specialist in Philosophy of Law, delivered the lecture “Equality, Discrimination and Intersectionality”, in which she analyzed how inequalities intersect and reinforce one another — based on gender, origin, class, or functional diversity, among others — and the challenges that this approach poses for current legal frameworks.
The session was followed by a roundtable discussion entitled “Diverse Women in the Faculty of Law: Experiences from an Intersectional Perspective.” Moderated by Lídia Ballesta Martí and Maria Barcons Campmajó, the discussion provided a space for several women from the faculty to share their personal and professional experiences. The roundtable highlighted that discrimination is not experienced uniformly and that an intersectional perspective is essential for understanding the realities faced by many individuals within the university. The closing remarks were delivered by Dr. Cristina Blasi Casagran, Vice-Dean for Mobility, Internationalization and Communication at the Faculty of Law.
The aim of the conference was to create a space for debate, visibility, and recognition of the diversity that makes up the university community, combining theoretical reflection with first-hand testimonies. The activity, open to everyone, attracted a large audience and reinforced the Faculty of Law’s commitment to real and effective equality.
