Self-Sourced Placement (Autopràcticum)

What are External Placements?

Students registered for degrees at the Faculty of Communication Studies have the option of undertaking a placement in a company in the sector in order to carry out tasks related to their degree programme. In some degrees these placements are compulsory.

How are companies chosen?

Students who so wish may find their own company in which to undertake their external placement. Once they have found the company, they must present the Autopràcticum proposal to the Faculty, which will be assessed by the Vice-Dean for Academic Organisation and Employability.

Autopràcticum proposals can be sent from September onwards.

How can I submit an Autopràcticum proposal?

The proposal is submitted by completing the following form and notifying the Academic Management Office of the centre at practiques.comunicacio@uab.cat:

Electronic proposal form

The form will be available:

  • From 1 September to 31 October for first-semester placements
  • From 2 December to 31 March for second-semester placements
  • From 28 April to 30 May for summer placements

For the Autopràcticum to be viable, the tasks to be carried out must be related to the student’s degree programme.

The Autopràcticum proposal must be submitted at least 15 days before the planned start date of the placement.

What do I do once the Autopràcticum proposal is approved?

If the proposal is approved by the Vice-Dean’s Office, the student must register for the placements in the group indicated when completing ordinary registration for the following academic year:

  • Group 1 is for first-semester placements
  • Group 2 is for second-semester placements

The Academic Management Office will send the placement agreement for signature as soon as possible.

The signature procedure is via an automatic link that is sent by email, and works as follows:

  1. Students must log in with their University ID Number (NIU) and password.
  2. Companies must be identified by an electronic certificate and have the Autofirma (e-signature) program installed.
  3. On behalf of the UAB, the Dean of the centre signs the agreement.

At what stage of the academic year are placements done?

Depending on the semester in which they take place, the approximate calendar for placements is:

  • First semester: October to January.
  • Second semester: February to May.
  • Summer placements: By agreement. They must end no later than the first week of September.
