What are External Placements?
Students registered for degrees at the Faculty of Communication Studies have the option of undertaking a placement in a company in the sector in order to carry out tasks related to their degree programme. In some degrees these placements are compulsory.
How are companies chosen?
The Faculty offers students a range of available places in companies for undertaking external placements. These places are offered through the Faculty’s Annual Call for Applications for Placements, and the application period opens in May.
The placements happen during the academic year following the application.
How to apply for places in the Faculty’s Annual Call for External Placements?
To apply for places in the Faculty’s call, students must submit their application via SIGMA in May via this link. They must meet the requirements stated in “General Information” at the time of application. Up to 30 different options can be chosen, and while the call is open, the choices can be modified.
Once the application period ends, the allocation of places will be made on the basis of the average grade in the academic records of the participating students.
What happens once the places have been allocated?
All allocated places are considered accepted unless the student states otherwise.
Students must register for the placements in the group indicated when completing ordinary registration for the following academic year:
- Group 1 is for first-semester placements
- Group 2 is for second-semester placements
The Academic Management Office will send the placement agreement to the student as soon as possible.
The signature process will be carried out via an automatic link received by email, by means of the following procedure:
- Students must log in with their University ID Number (NIU) and password.
- Companies must be identified by an electronic certificate and have the Autofirma (e-signature) program installed.
- On behalf of the UAB, the Dean of the centre signs the agreement.
What if I am not allocated a place?
You may take part in the Faculty's second phase for allocation of places via the website http://sia.uab.es.

How can I withdraw from an allocated place?
If you wish to turn down an allocated place, there is a specific period for submitting the electronic withdrawal form. Please find the form by clicking here.
At what stage of the academic year are placements done?
Depending on the semester in which they take place, the approximate schedule for placements is:
- First semester: October to January.
- Second semester: February to May.
- Summer placements: By agreement. They must end no later than the first week of September.
