The international geoscience services and software company SLB (Schlumberger) has signed an agreement with the Department of Geology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona to donate specialised software licences for teaching and academic research projects.

UAB

Under this agreement, valid until November 2028, SLB has granted a total of 12 professional software licences for subsurface interpretation and modelling. The agreement includes 2 licences from the Petrel MixTrans package, oriented towards advanced integrated interpretation workflows, and 10 licences from the ROCS educational package, integrating tools from the Petrel and PetroMod environments.

These platforms provide advanced functionality for seismic and well-log interpretation, structural geology, facies, petrophysical and fracture modelling, uncertainty analysis, and basin and petroleum system modelling in 1D, 2D, and 3D. The software is widely used in subsurface studies related to energy resources, geothermal systems, geological CO₂ storage and general reservoir characterisation.

The donated licences will be used by students, faculty, and researchers of the Department of Geology, particularly within the Master’s Degree in Geosciences for the Energy Transition, to support teaching activities, final projects, and non-commercial research projects related to geoscientific interpretation and integrated subsurface analysis.
