The Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA) is a multidisciplinary centre that promotes academic research and postgraduate education in the environmental sciences. It aims to improve our understanding of global environmental change, and the nature and causes of environmental problems. In addition, it studies policies, strategies and technologies to foster a transition to a sustainable economy.



JUNIOR LEADER “La Caixa” is a new postdoctoral programme devoted to attracting international researchers (of any nationality) to continue their career in Spanish territory on any discipline. The objectives of this programme are to foster high-quality, innovative research in Spain and to support the best scientific talents by providing them an attractive, competitive environment in which to conduct excellent research.



The JUNIOR LEADER programme is divided into two different frames:




  • La Caixa Junior Leader – Incoming: 20 postdoctoral fellowships for researchers of all nationalities that must not have resided or carried out their main activity in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the call deadline.

  • La Caixa Junior leader – Retaining: 10 postdoctoral fellowships for researchers of any nationality that must have resided or carried out their main activity in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the call deadline, to carry out research at any university or research centre in Spain.



The electronic application system https://www.becaslacaixa.org is open until October 2, 2017 The Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology (ICTA-UAB) participates as a host institution, due to its accreditation as María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence 2015 (MDM-2015-0552), by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO).



Candidates can develop their research project on climate and global change at ICTA-UAB. The call is open to candidates from all disciplines, including the natural and social sciences, humanities and engineering.
