1,300 people have already signed up for this Sunday's UAB Solidarity Race
With only four days left until registrations close for this year's solidarity race at the UAB in support of La Marató de 3Cat, 1,300 people have already signed up for the race or walk. The UAB and the Cerdanyola del Vallès City Council, in collaboration and with the sponsorship of the University of Barcelona and Applus+ Laboratories, organise the13th edition of the UAB Solidarity Race which will take place on Sunday 15 December. All money raised will go to the La Marató de 3Cat Foundation, which this year is dedicated to respiratory diseases.
Over 1,300 people have signed up to take part in the UAB Solidarity Race, in support of La Marató de 3Cat on Sunday 15 December starting at 10:30 a.m., with the start and finish line at the Vila Universitària. The campus once again will become a sportive and festive area during this 13th edition.
As in previous years, there will be four modalities of the race: two races of 11.6 km and 6 km, a 6 km walk and another reduced mobility walk of 480 metres. The routes will also be the same as every year.
The start of each race will be from the Vila Universitària: at 10:30 a.m. for participants with reduced mobility; at 11 a.m. for the 11.6 km race, and at 11:20 a.m. for the 6 km run and walk.
As every year, the campus expects the event to include the participation of federated runners, amateur athletes, families, staff members, lecturers and university students who, with their participation, contribute to a solidarity cause such as the one proposed each year by La Marató de TV3. All proceeds from participants will be donated to the La Marató de TV3 Foundation.
Also as every year, there will be a call for the participation of volunteers for the logistical and organisational tasks that are needed for an event like this, coordinated by the UAB's Solidarity Foundation (FAS).
The physiotherapy students of the Faculty of Medicine of the UAB will again participate in this thirteenth edition to offer their services to any runners or participants who need help recovering after the race or walk, in the facilities of the Hotel Campus. There will be a checkroom service and bib numbers will be distributed.
Past edition with more than one thousand participants
In the past edition, more than a thousand people and fifty volunteers participated, and a total of 26,583.39 euros was raised, which was donated to the La Marató de TV3 Foundation to fund research projects related to sexual and reproductive health, the theme chosen last year by the foundation. The winner in the men's category of the 11.6 km long race was Arnau Seguí Moll, and in the women's category, Elisa Melilli.
