UAB researchers among the top in veterinary and animal science
Several UAB researchers rank among the most influential in the field of veterinary and animal science according to the Best Animal Science and Veterinary Scientists 2026 ranking, recently published by the international platform Research.com.
Among the top veterinarians is Joaquim Segalés, professor at the UAB Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and researcher at the Animal Health Research Centre (IRTA-CReSA). He ranks 22 worldwide and second in Spain in the field of veterinary and animal science according the international ranking of Research.com. Professor Segalés is also one of the only four researchers in Spain to form part of the top 100 most influential scientists in the world in this discipline.
In addition to Professor Segalés, other outstanding UAB researchers are Enric Mateu, Xavier Manteca, Marina Sibila, Josep M.Folch, José Pérez, Santiago Lavín o Gerardo Caja, who also appear among the most prominent researchers in the veterinary field according to Research.com.
The 2026 ranking of the international platform Research.com was prepared based on the analysis of nearly 280,000 international scientific profiles and a selection of more than 3,100 specialists in veterinary and animal science. The classification is mainly based on the D-index or Discipline H-index, a bibliometric indicator that takes into account publications and citations exclusively within a specific field, in this case the field of veterinary and animal science.
The data comes from international bibliographic databases such as OpenAlex and Crossref, complemented by other scientific repositories and manual verification processes of researcher profiles.
