Thanks to the Institute of Catalan Studies, the UAB Publishing Service and University of Valencia Publications, the Catalan version of the book "Molecules. The elements and the Architecture of Everything" has just been published, written by Theodore Gray and illustrated by the photographer Nick Mann.

Through spectacular stories and photographs, the book explores the most interesting, essential, useful and marvellous features of the millions of chemical structures that make up all materials in the world.

All physical things are made from the elements and from the infinite variety of molecules that these make up when they are combined. In "Molecules", Theodore Gray takes another step in the story he began with the book "The Elements: A Visual Exploration of Every Known Atom in the Universe", which was also published by the above institutions.

Through spectacular stories and photographs, Gray explores the most interesting, essential, useful and marvellous features of the millions of chemical structures that make up all materials in the world.

The book – published recently – explains how atoms bond to form molecules and compounds, the difference between organic and inorganic chemistry, and the huge number of materials that molecules can create, including soaps, solvents, oils, rocks, ropes, medicines, sweeteners, perfumes, stink bombs, colours and pigments, and controversial compounds like thiomersal.

The book is illustrated by large, beautiful photographs on a black background. There are also diagrams of compounds and their chemical bonds.

"In this book science is presented in such an elegant way that you feel you are holding a jewellery catalogue, one that is hard to put down. An indispensable book for all ages and tastes", says Jamie Hyneman, the presenter of MythBusters, the Discovery Channel TV programme on popular science.

The book, priced at 30 Euros, is available at all major bookshops.

The first volume of the collection, on the elements
Four years ago "The Elements: A Visual Exploration of Every Known Atom in the Universe" – part of the same collection – was published by the UAB, the Science and Technology Section of the Institute of Catalan Studies (IEC) and University of Valencia Publications (PUV). The work is a visual exploration of the 118 elements in the periodic table. The Catalan translation of "The Elements: A Visual Exploration of Every Known Atom in the Universe" was the work of Pilar González, a member of the IEC and a Chemistry professor at the UAB.
