On 6 and 7 May the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona hosted the fourth edition of the University Theatre Biennial of the Vives Network of Universities, a cultural initiative that promotes artistic exchange between university theatre groups. The event took place in the Theatre Hall of the UAB, located at the Plaça Cívica, and featured the participation of ten theatre classes from different universities.

The Biennial is a traveling exhibition open to the public that is characterised by its format of a marathon of performances: each university presents a play of up to 50 minutes, which allows a diverse programme to be concentrated in two days and offers the audience a wide and varied sample of university theatre.

In this fourth edition, the theatre classes of ten universities of the Vives Network participated: the Unviersitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the University of Girona, the University of Alacant, the Polytechnic University of Valencia, the University of Valencia, the University of Barcelona, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, the Rovira i Virgili University, the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia, and the Open University of Catalonia.

The programme started on 6 May at 11:00 a.m. with the opening ceremony and gave way to the first performances. For two days, the scenic proposals of all participating universities were presented, in a marathon that combines different styles, formats and themes.

In addition to the performances, the competition included training activities such as workshops and meeting spaces for participants, with the aim of promoting learning and the exchange of experiences between students and scenic creators. This year, the programme also included the participation of actress María García Vera, who presented the performative conference Ser extraterrestre una estona, a proposal that explores new ways of looking at reality to imagine other ways of living.

The Biennial of University Theatre has consolidated itself as a reference space within the cultural program of the Vives Network, an institution that groups universities in Catalan-speaking territories and promotes joint initiatives in areas such as culture, research and teaching. This was the second time that the UAB hosted a meeting of university theatre classes from the Vives Network. The first was held in 2006, and in this fourth edition, in a biennial format, the aim is to reinforce the role of the performing arts within university life and contribute to making visible the creative proposals that have emerged from the campuses.
