The UAB Governing Council met on 1 June in an ordinary session in which it passed the modification of the title referring to the UAB's academic regulation evaluation with the aim of including the possibility of single evaluations. This option will be available starting in the 2023/24 academic year.

Students

The UAB's academic regulations describes student evaluation as the process of assessing the degree to which educational objectives are met within a particular academic programme, based on objective and quantifiable proof, and clearly explained transparent criteria. Student evaluation at the UAB is a continuous process taking place during lecture periods, in accordance with the sequence established by the study guide and academic calendar, with the aim of showing students their academic progress throughout their degree studies.

Now, with this new modification and starting in the 2023/24 academic year, students will be able to request a single evaluation in subjects in which this is possible, due to their contents and teaching methods, and when specified in the study guide, in which the evaluation system must also be described. All degrees will include the possibility of requesting a single evaluation.

Choosing a single evaluation represents renouncing the continuous assessment option. Students will therefore, on an assigned date, have to turn in all necessary assignments to accredit and ensure reaching the objectives and skills required by the subject to the same level as students choosing to be continuousely assessed. To formally request a single evaluation, students must present an application to the centre and specify the subjects in which they wish to be evluated only once. The dates in which applications will be accepted will be announced each year in the UAB administrative academic calendar. In exceptional cases due to work or health conditions, students may also apply for a single evaluation outside the predetermined application dates.

Each teaching centre will have to publish a list of degree subjects allowing for single evaluations before the end of the second semester of the 2022/23 academic year. The single evaluation regulations will be assessed and revised, and modified if necessary, at the end of the first semester in which they come into force, in the 2023/24 academic year.

The possibility of choosing a single evaluation method was a long-standing demand of students which was negotiated these past months among the governing team, teaching centres and student representatives. The agreement reached culminated in the passing of the proposal by the Committee of Academic Affairs on 30 May and now ratified by the UAB Governing Council.
