UAB and Mataró City Council create a new archaeology campus

The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, through its Department of Antiquity and Middle Age Studies, has carried out collaborations with the Mataró City Council in the field of archaeology research and teaching since 1998. This collaboration was consolidated with the fieldwork and archaeological dig carried out at the Torre Llauder site. At the end of last year, some twenty students from the UAB were invited to participated in the dig at this site.

The creation of the UAB Archaeology Campus Torre Llauder will facilitate the conducting of research and scientific development in the field of archaeology and heritage, and will become an essential training tool for students. In addition, it will be a crucial element of the city's archaeological heritage with which to disseminate scientific results in academic spheres and to the public in general, while also contributing to promote the Torre Llauder site as an area of reference.
 
The campus will include fieldwork teaching at bachelor's degree, master's degree and PhD levels, both at the site and at research facilities located in Mataró, as well as include research and scientific development activities in the field of archaeology and heritage. It will also its services to all of the national scientific community and open research collaborations with international institutes.

The UAB aims to contribute to the value of Catalonia's cultural heritage by officially acknowledging the work carried out by its archaeology groups in different sites around the country by creating the UAB Archaeology Campus.
