Two hundred children from the CROMA 2.0 programme to visit the UAB
Over 200 children from 19 schools in Cerdanyola del Vallès, Sabadell, Terrassa, Rubí and Montcada i Reixac, participants of the FAS' CROMA 2.0 socio-educational programme, will be visiting the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) on 21 May, The children will discover the campus and have the chance to present the research projects they worked on with research groups of the University.

CROMA 2.0 is a socio-educational programme managed by the Fundació Autònoma Solidària (FAS) in which UAB students participate, in internships or by volunteering. It is aimed at children aged 11 and 12, who participate in workshops where group dynamics, study support, and research projects are carried out. The main objective is to foster the interest in knowledge among 5th and 6th grade primary school students in a situation of socio-economic vulnerability and who do not have support outside of school hours.
On 21 May, 200 students from the 19 schools that have participated in the programme will visit the UAB campus. The meeting aims to motivate children to feel capable of pursuing higher education and see it as a real option for the future. The main objectives of the visit are for the children to discover the university and also to bring them closer to the research teams.
Each research centre that participated in the programme designed a project with various activities to explain complex concepts to students in a simple, creative and fun way. An example is the Sí que és Pau! project from the School for a Culture of Peace (ECP), which works with the children of CROMA 2.0 to reflect on conflicts, coexistence and the culture of peace.
The other collaborating teams include the Agrigenomic Research Centre (CRAG) with the Mutant Plants project, the Institut de Neurociències (INc) with the Robot of Emotions project, and the Research Group on Didactics of Social Sciences (GREDICS) with the Everyone Equally Different project. All of these proposals were worked on in schools throughout the school year.
The visit on 21 May will consist of a first part where the children will explain to the research centres how they worked and overcame the challenges of the project. After the presentation, they will be divided by schools to get to know the centre's facilities through activities proposed and conducted by the researchers themselves.
The UAB students who participated in the programme will organise a scavenger hunt where the children will learn about the different spaces and environments of the UAB Campus. Finally, the day will end with a joint lunch and a photo of all the participants.
Nineteen schools from the towns of Cerdanyola del Vallès, Montcada i Reixac, Rubí, Sabadell and Terrassa participated. Students from Psychology, Education, Sociology, Literature, and other bachelor's degrees volunteered in this programme.
This programme receives the support of the participating municipalities, the Barcelona Provincial Council, the Vallès Occidental Regional Council, and the Ministry for Social Rights of the Government of Catalonia.
