The UAB welcomes students to the 10th edition of the Barcelona Summer School
Today marks the start of the UAB Barcelona Summer School, offering courses from all academic fields and open to both international and local students. Laura Santamaria, vice-rector for Culture and Language Policy, welcomed participants to "one of the top universities in Spain" in this first summer school period, which will take place until 11 July.

Vice-rector Santamaria described the UAB as “a hub of knowledge, innovation and sustainability”, highlighting the fact that the campus is “designed to minimise the impact on the environment”. She gave some general information about the University, as well as about the UAB Summer School. And stressed the “importance of meeting people from other countries”, wishing the participants that, in this summer school, they will make long-lasting “new friendships”.
Professor Graham Mortyn of the Department of Geography gave a general explanation of the UAB Barcelona Summer School's academic programme and guided the students on some aspects such as the virtual campus and the evaluation system. And Daiara Usme, member of the International Relations Department, gave some details about the social programme of the summer school, which includes activities both on the UAB campus and in the city of Barcelona. Mortyn and Usme agreed on the importance of “social interaction” and emphasised safety tips for the celebration of the Eve of Sant Joan and for the stay in general during the UAB Barcelona Summer School.
Over 600 participants
In this tenth edition, more than 600 people of some forty different nationalities from all five continents will participate. New courses will be offered and 90% of classes will be in English. Students can obtain recognition of between 6 and 12 ECTS credits.
The activity takes place in two three-week periods: the first period runs from 23 June to 11 July; and the second period, from 14 July to 1 August. The UAB Barcelona Summer School also allows students to share experiences with students from other countries and learn about different cultures, giving them the opportunity to participate in recreational and sports activities.
