With the aim of introducing the University's students to the different options that board games and video games offer to deepen research and knowledge, the UAB libraries have organised, on Wednesday, April 15th, an entire day of demonstrations on how games with very diverse themes work.

Activities at the UAB Jugató

  • Communication Library and General Newspaper Archives

Location: COMTEC Video Games Service Centre, Second Floor
Time: 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The Library will exhibit and explain how board games related to the field of communication work. For example, games on journalism (Pulitzer), photography (Red Carpet), radio (Días de Radio), film (Spoilers, Black Stories), and television (El Joc de TV3). The games will be available to play. The Video Games Service will also display a selection of video games related to communication that are available on the Steam platform.

  • Science and Technology Library

Location: Espai BCT
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Library will dedicate this space to sessions in which staff will explain how to play a selection of the available games, all of them fast-paced, related to mathematics (Ubongo, Quarto), the natural environment (Embosca’t, Wingspan, Catalunya Birds Memory Game), and genetics (PhyloGenome, with a special session given by Sònia Casillas, Vice-Dean of Students, Employability and Communication of the Faculty of Science and creator of the game).

  • Social Sciences Library

Library staff will offer a demonstration of the game El Crimen de Quintana de la Matanza, an investigation case that will test the deductive skills of participants and invite them to solve a mystery step by step.

In addition, attendees will be able to participate in an unboxing of several board games, such as Cluedo, La resistència and Pandèmia. This activity will consist of opening the boxes, discovering their components and trying out the dynamics and mechanics of each game.

  • Veterinary Library

Location: Game Space
Time: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The library invites you to try out the new virtual reality glasses, which offer an immersive and relaxing experience to reflect, from a one health approach, on the connection between human, animal and environmental health.

Attendees will start with Pollinator Park, an experience that transports one to a dystopian future in which pollinators have disappeared, to discover how their absence affects the entire food chain and our own wellbeing. Then, with the Honeybee VR game, you will completely change your perspective to understand the essential role of bees in the ecosystem

The Birds of Catalonia Memory Game will also be available to play. This memory game launched by scientific illustrator Àlex Mascarell was created to learn about the different species of bird fauna existing in different parts of Catalonia in a fun and entertaining way.

  • Sabadell University Library

Location: Ground Floor
Time: 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The Library will test the ingenuity of players with games such as Monopoly, to buy, sell and negotiate properties with the aim of achieving a great fortune; Catan, in which towns and cities are built on the island of Catan while exchanging resources with other participants; Le Havre, based on developing a city and obtaining the maximum wealth possible, and many other games.
