The UAB Theatre Hall hosts the performance of Rita, a tragicomedy about family and death
The UAB Theatre Hall will host the performance of Rita, a play by Marta Buchaca presented by the company 8uit de Teatre, on Monday 13 April at 1:15 pm. Admission is free, with limited seating.
At the initiative of the UAB Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the UAB Theatre Hall presents Rita, a tragicomedy written by Barcelona-based playwright Marta Buchaca, which will be performed on Monday 13 April at 1:15 pm at the UAB Theatre Hall.
The play stars Maria Vancells and Siscu Ruiz, who portray Júlia and Toni, two siblings with deeply contrasting personalities and ways of facing life. The production is directed by Mario Fernández.
The starting point of the conflict is the decision to euthanise Rita, Toni’s dog — a situation that shakes the protagonists’ certainties and brings underlying family tensions to the surface.
From this moment on, the conversation drifts towards much deeper issues, culminating when Toni suggests applying the same criterion to their mother. This is when the disagreement between the siblings erupts, opening an uncomfortable yet necessary debate about the limits of responsibility, dignity, love, and the legitimacy of deciding over the lives — and deaths — of others.
Rita blends humour and drama to explore the inability to accept loss and the difficulty of “letting go” of the people we love. With a running time of approximately 80 minutes, the performance invites audiences to reflect on what it means to live — and die — with dignity.
The event is free of charge and open to the university community and the general public, with seating limited to the venue’s capacity.
