On Wednesday 15 March at 1pm, the Vers Retrobat Company comes to the UAB Theatre Hall with "The misanthrope", a five-act comedy directed by Pere Sagristà-Ollé, which stages the most emblematic work of the French comedian Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, also known as Molière. A drama that depicts the hypocrisy and human flaws of 17th-century French aristocratic society.

El misàntrop

The production, which was intended to commemorate the 400th birthday of the famous French playwright (1622), tells the story of Alcest, a man who hates all of humanity and denounces its hypocrisy, cowardice and compromise.

When Molière wrote his most significant play, he was ill and abandoned by his wife. These personal problems led him to write a play in which the superficiality and falsehood of human beings and the discontent of the society of the time were the main subjects of criticism.

The public will be able to enjoy for free (limited to the capacity of the reserved space) at the UAB Theatre Hall of a performance structured in five acts and in Catalan verse, the translation in paired alexandrine verse by Bonaventura Vallespinosa. The translation remains faithful to the original because it has the same number of verses and he made no changes in rhyme and metre.

The comedy directed by Pere Sagristà-Ollé, who has directed more than 30 plays, will be performed by eleven actors and actresses from the Compañía del Vers Retrobat, a theatre group of students and former students of the Eolia School, the Dramatic Art School of Barcelona.
