The UAB stands among the top 200 globally in the NTU Ranking

The UAB ranks 171st globally and 63rd in Europe in the overall indicator of the NTU Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities 2026, published by the National Taiwan University (NTU), thereby remaining among the top 200 universities worldwide. The UAB is the third university in Spain according to the ranking, only behind the University of Barcelona (UB), which ranks 65th, and the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), which occupies the 155th position.

In the subject area rankings, the UAB stands in 121st position in Agriculture, 145th in Medicine, 172nd in Social Sciences, 184th in Life Sciences, and 206th in Natural Sciences. By specific subject, the UAB stands out in Neuroscience & Behavior (ranking 85th worldwide), Plant & Animal Science (89th), and Space Science (165th).

It is worth noting that the NTU ranking includes an additional classification, the Reference Ranking, which adjusts for differences in university size by weighting results according to the number of full-time equivalent teaching and research staff. In this ranking, the UAB holds the 136th position globally and ranks second in Spain, behind the UB, which is in 56th place.

The NTU Ranking, produced by the National Taiwan University since 2011, is the successor to the ranking previously compiled by the Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan (HEAACT) since 2007. The ranking classifies the best institutions based on the number of published articles and the number of citations. Unlike other rankings, the NTU ranking focuses on the performance of scientific articles. It analyses publications from over 4,000 research institutions and ranks more than 1,900 universities. The data are drawn from Clarivate Analytics’ Web of Science (WOS) and the Science Citation Index (SCI/SSCI).
